OUR MISSION
Seso is building the premier platform for agribusiness to hire and manage their workforce and improve the lives of agricultural workers.
There's a saying in agriculture, "crop doesn't wait." When an apple is ready to drop from the tree, it's going to drop whether the harvest crew is there to pick it or not. Every day, there are countless elements beyond a farm's control: the price of product, the weather, a constantly changing regulatory environment, to name a few. Yet by far, the biggest challenge farmers face is finding and retaining a reliable workforce. Unfortunately, farms have lacked modern software to support them in hiring and managing a seasonal workforce, until now.
Our vision at Seso is simple: Modernize America's food production system by empowering the people that grow our food. Seso provides farmers with a modern workforce management system, purpose-built for agribusiness. Whether it's helping employers navigate the H-2A program, ensuring seasonal workers are hired and arrive on time, maintaining compliant records for government audits, or streamlining employee onboarding and payroll, Seso is the all-in-one labor solution for the modern farmer.
Why We Started Seso
Seso was founded after a firsthand encounter with agriculture's broken labor system. Michael Guirguis's cousin, Marsha Habib, runs Oya Organics, a small, sustainable, organic farm in Hollister, California. Marsha is a young, female, minority farmer of Egyptian-Japanese descent who started her farm in her late 20s. Despite producing excellent crops, Oya struggled to turn a profit. Michael spent Thanksgiving 2018 going through the books with Marsha and her husband, Modesto, and the problem was clear: the cost and availability of labor was the ceiling on their business.
A passing mention of a "farm visa" led Michael to the H-2A program — an uncapped guest worker visa that had grown 300% over the prior decade, yet remained largely inaccessible. Michael teamed up with co-founder Jordan Taylor, who grew up farming and had been a product leader at Farmers Business Network, and Seso was born. Today, we're one of the largest H-2A providers in the U.S., and Oya Organics — the farm that sparked it all — is thriving.
“Farmers and ranchers in every state tell me that the shortage of labor is the greatest limiting factor on their farms. They try to hire American workers, but there are not many takers — and those who do take farm jobs often quit before the season is over.”
Zippy Duval, President, American Farm Bureau Federation
Where We Are Going
Solving H-2A revealed how much further there was to go: worker records in filing cabinets, payroll in spreadsheets, compliance managed by hand. Every back-office function was fragmented and built for a different era. We saw the opportunity to bring the entire labor stack into one modern, connected platform: purpose-built for seasonal workforces, H-2A and domestic worker management, ag-specific payroll, and compliance across dozens of jurisdictions.
Our vision: Seso is the all-in-one system that agriculture runs on: the system of record ag employers rely on to hire, manage, pay, and retain their workforce, and that gives workers visibility, dignity, and financial opportunity in return.
Seso is backed by Index Ventures, Founders Fund, BOND, and NfX, and has been recognized by Fast Company, Forbes, and AgTech Breakthrough as one of agriculture's most innovative companies. We're proud of the recognition, but we're more proud of the farmers who trust us to run their operations, and the workers whose lives are better because of it.
